How well do you think that this texting conversation/date set-up went? Does this “um” mean anything?

Question by Jessie: How well do you think that this texting conversation/date set-up went? Does this “um” mean anything?
I awkwardly got this beautiful, random girls’ phone number at the bus stop. I texted her and didn’t expect a text back, but she did, and we ended up having a pretty long text conversation over two days. As the conversation was dying down, this is what happened.

Me: Hey, so what do you say we grab a drink next week? I’d like to get to know you more but I don’t want to learn EVERYTHING about you through text 🙂
Her: Sure hah that sounds good 🙂
Me: Alright great, how does next Wednesday evening sound? (which is a week from now)
Her: Um yeah that should be fine hah

Whenever someone says “Um” I get discouraged for some reason haha.

  1. don’t be discouraged. personally, when im texting,i write things out so that they sound like im physically saying them. i say um and uh a lot because i pause to take time to think. That’s probably what she meant with her um.

  2. Well she said yes! I think she doesn’t want to sound too eager, you know, play it cool. The um might just be to downplay the event. Go on the date and see how that goes! Nothing to lose man

  3. 1. they don’t know what to say
    2. hard to explain
    3. they don’t want to explain
    4. they think you are an idiot.

  4. I wouldn’t worry. I do that all the time. It’s not meant as a no, it’s just that she’s racking her brain to make sure she’s free that day. That’s what it is with me at least.
